Pejati is named after Peter-Jan Timmerman, his school nickname. At 15, Peter-Jan discovered his calling as a goldsmith—a choice that changed his life. After completing his military service, he worked for a jeweler in Knokke, the parents of Vincent, crafting exclusive pieces adorned with precious gemstones.

In 1991, Peter-Jan struck out on his own. He designed and created new jewelry from old gold for both private clients and top jewelers in Knokke and Brussels. As gold became more valuable, an increasing amount of old gold came in—more than could be used in new designs. This led to the beginning of buying, melting, and paying out for old gold.
